I’ve raised AKC and CKC Dachshunds for over ten years. There is nothing wrong with picking the puppies up to inspect their conformation and wholesomeness. Most of my bitches were my puppies, meaning that they know and trust me to handle their babies. You can do just about anything you need to do to them to maintain and take care of them, just do what you have to do “gently,’ but firmly and with a purpose.

@J5S7hXc You don’t know a damn thing about dachshunds,do you? My dachshund,who’s only 10 pounds,scared the hell out of a full grown German Shepherd. Also,the pup was cold. When a human is cold,they shake as well. Does that mean we’re rats?
