The Sonic Bark Collar: A Good Idea?

A lot of people find that their dogs’ tendecies to bark without a reason need to be put under control. While there is much sympathy for this viewpoint, how effective is the sonic bark collar in creating this control?.

There is an expression that professional dog trainers like: “train the master and you’ll train the dog,” which actually makes sense if you think about it a bit. That means that if the owner doesn’t understand the training, he or she won’t know what his or her dog is going through and his or her orders might be confusing or even contradictory for the dog.

However, for those owners that understand their dogs behavior, the sonic collar (also known as the ultrasonic collar) is a good training tool. What could be simpler than putting a special collar on your dog to make it quiet? In a perfect world -  nothing!.

In the imperfect world that we live in, some people use the sonic collar in a wrong way, in their hurry to train their dog in a unreasonable amount of time. A common mistake is to make the dog wear the collar all day long. They should only be used when normal training isn’t effective and when there are other dogs nearby whose bark can activate the collar even if your dog is quiet. In addition, the ultrasonic bark collar has different settings that you should pay attention to before making your dog wear it. Many sonic or ultrasonic bark collars can be set to the best level of output combined with the level of sensitivity to the barking of your dog.

The correct use of a sonic bark collar will help you teach your dog not to bark during inconvenient times or situations.

Most professionals agree that the best way to train a dog is to catch it on the spot and correct the bad behavior the moment it happens. There are people who wonder if the sonic collar can act in this way. Nevertheless, if you have a problem with shock or spray collars, the sonic collar is a good option.
