Is your dog’s bad behavior causing you stress? Don’t put it off any longer. It’s time to get down to some consistent obedience training for your dog. This means you need to be consistent and persistent with your training. However, training should always be fun for your dog or it will quickly get bored!

What Are Your Dog’s Basic Need?

Having a dog is a responsibility. If you don’t fulfill your dog’s basic needs, it shouldn’t be a surprise if your dog’s behavior continues to stress you out. What are the basic needs? Here are the main ones:

  • water and food
  • regular daily exercise
  • company and social interaction
  • a stimulating environment.

The main principle in dog training is to adopt positive and negative reinforcement. When your dog does a behavior that you want to encourage, you should reward him with a treat or affection. It’s very important that the reward comes immediately after the wanted behavior or the dog will not connect the two thing.

It’s best to focus on positive reinforcement for wanted behaviors rather than negative reinforcement for undesired behaviors. This has been found to be a more productive way of training.

Physical punishment is not an effective or compassionate way to train dogs and will only lead to a  fearful and neurotic dog. You can say a firm “No” in a growling tone of voice to stop him behaving badly. Ignoring your dog and turning away from him is the most productive thing for you to do when he misbehaves. Dogs want your attention and being ignored is negative reinforcement enough.

An important aspect of training is to understand that a dog is a dog, not a human being. Don’t humanize him. Dogs have their own way of communicating which you will not understand unless you study it. You should study what their body language means: the position of the tail, the mouth positions, the ear position and the sounds they make.

Another important aspect of training is to position yourself as the pack leader. If your dog is the alpha dog, you will be fighting a losing battle to get him to behave as you want. Why would he take notice of one of his pack member? Some advice on setting yourself up as pack leader:
-eat a some food in front of your dog just before you feed him. The alpha dog always eats before the pack members.
-don’t let him to onto the bed or sofa. The alpha dog sleeps on higher ground.
-make sure you go through doors before your dog.

This is an introduction to some important points in dog training. I recommend you look into the most systematic of training methods: clicker training.

Your relationship with your dog is considered symbiotic. He showers you with undying, unconditional affection and companionship. For your part, you provide him with meals, dog treats, a roof over his head, periodic trips to the vet, and your friendship. In most cases, it’s a perfect match which grows stronger with time.

Unfortunately, even loving owners neglect to take care of a few essentials. In today’s article, I’ll give you a few reminders of basic things you need to do (if you haven’t already) in order to keep your canine companion safe, healthy, and happy.

Tip 1 – Alway apply a Leash to your dog when outdoors

A lot of owners feel leashing their dog is cruel and inhibiting. While taking a stroll around the neighborhood, visiting parks, or going to other public places, they’ll leave the leash at home. That’s a bad idea. Even if your pooch has been properly vaccinated and has his tags, keeping him on a leash is best for everyone – including him.

Tip 2 – Spay Or Neuter Your Pet

If you are not a dog breeder, there is no reason not to spay or neuter your pet dog. In fact, doing so can help him live a longer, healthier life. Also, it’s worth noting that one of the leading causes of homeless mutts is that their owners fail to have their pets “fixed.” That leads to a greater number of pooches being placed into shelters and eventually euthanized.

Tip 3 – Enroll Him In Obedience Training

Dogs begin learning how to behave immediately. What’s more, they continue learning throughout their lives. If their bad habits are not curbed, those habits can develop into frustrating behavioral problems. Enroll your pooch into obedience classes. Not only will he learn what type of behavior is acceptable and what isn’t, but the training will also improve the relationship you share together.

Tip 4 – Give Him Exercise

Your dog requires plenty and physical activity for a multitude of reasons. First, if you spend most of the day away from home, he’s going to have pent-up energy. He needs a way to release it. Second, daily exercise keeps your dog healthy and enthusiastic. Take him for a walk in the morning and again during the evening. You’ll find that providing exercise for him will keep him happy and healthy.

A Lifetime Of Loyalty

Having a dog is a lifelong commitment of responsibilities. Indeed, keeping your canine companion healthy and safe requires ongoing vigilance. But, by providing him with the essentials he needs, especially in the beginning, you’ll lay the foundation for a lifelong friendship. Most owners agree that the loyalty and love they share with their dogs is irreplaceable. Take care of your pooch and he’ll remain faithful to you for the rest of his days.

Arthritis affects not only people but also their dear pets as well especially pet dogs. Statistics say that in US about 25% of pets are affected by arthritis. As a dog owner and lover, you should pay attention that your non-human friend is always in good mood, playful and that it eats well and healthy food. But if you do get a glimpse of changes in your dog’s mood and activity like having difficulty in just sitting down, standing, or even finds it also difficult to climb stairs or if it gained weight or its behavior changed you should most likely that you need to pay your vet a visit. You furry pal could be in pain because of arthritis. Some owners who are emotionally attached to their pets have not second thoughts in bringing their beloved to the vet. The veterinarian will do an examination and an X-ray to your dog. And when everything is done, he can prescribed some over-the-counter medications for your dog. However, not all medications or dog arthritis treatment is best for the health of your pet. These drugs can do amazing things but they might have side-effects, too, just like medications for humans. That’s why, you can hear your vet saying that you have to make sure you give the right dosage or else…

Now, that is a very dreadful part. If you can’t manage to give your dog the right amount of medication it needs, it will be perilous for him. For some people, medications are not good for both humans and dogs alike that’s why, they would resort to other things and those other things can come in the form of a natural dog joint supplement and right now, there are virtual pet stores on the Internet that offer these kinds of herbal medications for dogs.

But the only problem is, because of so many choices, the owner of a dog with arthritis can have a hard time choosing for the best and of course, the safest product. That’s why, it’s always recommended that he should try to read first some product reviews and/or testimonies for other dog owners on what kind of arthritis dog supplement is best for their furry best friend.
